Prof. Anton Luger, MD

Prof. Anton Luger, MD is Head of the Clinical Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Medical University and General Hospital of Vienna. He received his Graduate training 1971-1978 at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna, Austria, where he received the M.D. in 1978. He started his medical career at the 3rd Department of Internal Medicine, Hospital of the City of Vienna-Lainz, followed by internships at the Institute of Pharmacology and the Departments of Medicine II and Cardiology at the University of Vienna. Anton Luger was awarded a Max Kade fellowship for training at the Developmental Endocrinology Branch, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA in 1985/86. Afterwards he returned as senior physician to the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine III, University of Vienna. In 1995 he became Vice Head and in 2005 Head of this Department. He has ongoing scientific cooperation with NIH. As an active member of several national and international societies, especially of The Endocrine Society, he was appointed President of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), Section Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. He is author or co-author of more than 230 papers in peer-reviewed journals and of several books as well as member of the Editorial Board of journals like Hormones (Associated Editor) and Endocrine.
