Two pathways to certification

After you submit the PCMW Application Form, the EUSTM Academy Educational Board reviews each application and assigns one of two categories based on your background, experience, and qualifications.

Category 1

Experience Pathway

For professionals with 3 or more years of relevant medical or scientific writing experience — CV- and portfolio-based evaluation, no examination required.

  • Background & experience review — relevance and depth in scientific, regulatory, and medical writing.
  • Evidence of contribution and the quality of your writing portfolio and professional statement.

Category 2

Examination Pathway

For early-career professionals or those transitioning into medical writing — certification granted upon passing a qualifying online examination.

  • Qualifying online examination covering core medical writing competencies — proctored online and available year-round.
  • Results within two weeks; a pass mark is required to qualify for certification.

Board Review

The EUSTM Academy Educational Board reviews your application and assigns Category 1 or 2.

Assessment

Category 1: portfolio evaluation. Category 2: qualifying online examination.

Sign the Certification Conditions Form and pay the applicable fee.

Certificate Awarded

Receive your PCMW certificate and the right to use the postnominal title.
