Dr. Roelant holds a master degree in biology and a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences obtained from the university of Leuven. He started his career as an assistant professor at the Hematology Department of the Faculty of Medecine, university of Leuven, during which period he has been involved in the development and the implementation of several clinical tests ( white blood cell functional tests ), clinical trials and the set-up of the first bone-marrow transplantation unit in Flanders. Later on he joined Innogenetics N.V. as a project leader involved in the start-up and the further expansion of the first biotech company in Flanders. Besides consultancy functions to pharmaceutical companies, he has been appointed director of New Technology Development at Tibotec N.V. where he co-developed an HIV drug screening platform through which 2 HIV drugs where discovered: Darunavir and Etravirine. To date, the combination of his experience in molecular- and cellular biology, clinical tests, biotechnology and drug discovery form the basis of his collaboration as a research company with Himmunitas VZW to finally unravel the mechanism of disease behind Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and related conditions.
