Edwin Bremer, PhD

Edwin Bremer received his PhD in 2006 with the honorable distinction ‘Cum Laude’ at the University of Groningen. He completed his post-doctoral training as an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the University Hospital Würzburg in Germany. He was awarded a Dutch Cancer Society Career Development Grant and an innovational research incentives Veni grant by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research and is currently a tenure track Assistant Professor at the section Translational Surgical Oncology of the Department of Surgery at the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands. He was further visiting professor at the University of Alberta (Canada) and Harbin Medical University (China). His laboratory is focused on early development of novel cancer immunotherapeutics that re-activate anti-cancer T-cell immunity and immunotherapeutic approaches to selectively induce apoptosis in cancer and cancer stem cells. Research is conducted in close collaboration with clinicians to catalyze translation of fundamental findings into clinical application.
