Roberto Perris, PhD

Roberto Perris, born August 7, 1957, graduated in 1979 in Biological Sciences, at the University of Umeå, Sweden, received a Master Degree in Zoology in 1982 at the University of Uppsala; received the PhD in Developmental Biology in 1987 and Docentship in Developmental Biology in 1994 at the University of Uppsala, Sweden. Elected member of the British Institute of Biology, UK in 1994. Has held the following academic positions after receiving the PhD title: 1987-1992, Research Associate at the Developmental Biology Center, University of California Irvine; 1992-1998, Staff Scientist at the National Cancer Institute in Aviano; 1998-present, Consulting Scientist and Group Leader at the same institute; 1998-2005, Associate Professor at the University of Parma, Italy; 2005-present, Full Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the same university; 2009-present, Director of the Centre for Molecular and Translational Oncology at the University of Parma. Member of 17 national and international scientific societies and professional societies, recurrently engaged as reviewer for 14 scientific journals and evaluator of grant applications for several national and international funding institutions, including the European Union. During the years has been principal investigator for a total of 42 research grants provided by private and public institutions in Italy; holds 3 patents; has given 73 invited seminars; has served as session leader at 28 national and international conferences and workshops and has been invited speaker at 13 national and international conferences; has been organizer of an international congress on the role of proteoglycans in pathogenesis. During the years has had consultancy contracts for different time periods for 7 different pharmaceutical and biotech companies; has supervised more than 60 pre-doctoral and Master Degree theses in Italy and abroad within the faculties of Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Pharmacology, Pharmacology and Medicine and has tutored more than 20 PhD theses in Italy and abroad pertaining to 6 different PhD programmes. The scientific production is documented by 78 peer-reviewed publications, 7 publications in non-peer reviewed journals, 3 book chapters, and 244 oral and poster presentations at national and international meetings.
