Prof. Louis Penning

Louis Penning, originally trained as cell biologist, combines lecturing (BSc- and MSc-level) and research at the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, the Netherlands. His focus is on regenerative strategies in hepatology and orthopedics. He strongly believes that companion animals (i.e. cats and dogs) can, in several cases, improve the translation of fundamental murine studies into clinically relevant medical strategies in human medicine. After post-doctoral training in several different organ systems he now applies this knowledge together with state-of-art molecular tools to investigate adult stem cells and organoid technology for regenerative purposes both for men and dogs/cats.
